lets get right down to it.

Section 1

What is happening to our country? Over the last few years we have seen our rights, rights we have had since the ratification of our Constitution over 200 years ago, slipping away. The worst part is that so many people of these United States don't even seem to care or notice. The events of September 11th, 2001 do not justify what has occurred since. The people murdered on that day died in a country of freedom, and since then the rest of us have lived in a country where our rights are being taken from us. I am a patriot. I do not always agree with our countries actions, I do not always like the decisions of our leaders, but I love the USA for what it stands for, a place where everyone has rights and can be themselves. As long as this is what the USA is founded on, I will remain a patriot.

Ironically the first time I ever questioned my patriotism was due to the Patriot Act. This act does have its good sides but they do not justify the bad. With this act the United States Government can hold a person without charging them with a crime, without consultation of a lawyer, and indefinitely. Not since Nazi Germany has a leading American or European government been able to do this.

Now the FCC is cracking down on indecency in the media with the ability to levy fines up to $500,000. Indecency?

in·de·cen·cy

1. The state or quality of being unseemly or immodest.

2. Something indecent.

(From www.dictionary.com)

So now my freedom to share my ideas over the radio or television has to be deemed seemly or modest as judged by a government organization. Is the right to speak my mind on politics modest? Is my right to share my religion with others of my faith seemly?

So in our country you could be held in a cell for the rest of your life, never charged with a crime, and if anyone took it to the press they could be deemed immodest and fined $500,000.

What is happening to my country?

Ladies and gentlemen, I present portions of the Bill of Rights.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

Q&A - Section 2

Are you just some whiney liberal?

You obviously didnt read My Bio. For starters, Im a Republican who voted for Bush in 2000.

Does the Patriot Act Really take away our rights?

Yes. You can see the changes here http://www.truthout.com/docs_02/09.09C.ap.rights.p.htm.

Or you can read a guide to the entire thing here http://www.bordc.org/Repeal.pdf. (.PDF format)

If those dont satisfy you, you can look up the Act on Google.

Can the FCC really keep people from broadcasting anything they determine to be indecent?

Yes, they sure can. Have a look at their website here http://www.fcc.gov/.

What do you think about Osama Bin Laden and the recent war with Iraq?

I think the USA's actions in Afghanistan are completely justifiable and I fully support them. We retaliated against a terrorist, his organization, and the country that supported and harbored him. As for Iraq I think we invaded a country a destroyed a foreign government that was less a threat to us than several other countries. Saddam Hussein did not make open threat of using WMD's against the USA while Kim Jong-il of North Korea did. While I abhor the way he treated some of his people I also find the massacres still going on in the DR Congo and other areas of the world just as bad if not many times worse. I do not think any country has the right to invade another country and change its government unless it is in retaliation for a crime against them or other countries unable to protect themselves. I fully support the Gulf War in 1991. I wish we had removed Saddam at that time, but after 12 years we lost that right.

What other political opinions do you have?

This website isnt about anything but the topics above. If you are really curious though I again direct you to My Bio.

Youre not a Patriot!

Ok, well thats wasnt really a question, however...

I am the truest of Patriots. I think our country is great. I also think our country is becoming something else. A lot of recent changes mirror Nazi Germany and USSR we were in a cold war with for so long. If not supporting the loss of our rights that many never had under Communism is non-patriotic by your definition, then one of us really needs to think about what a Patriot is.

What can I do to keep things from going wrong in our government?

Write your congressperson. Call your representatives office. Call the white house. Vote. Know who you are voting for. Ask candidates for any elected body how they feel about these recent changes.

Here, Ill even help out

Write Your Congressperson

and

Call the White House at 202-456-1111 or email at president@whitehouse.gov

I got a tax cut! Why should I care?

Its your right as an American to not care or to even support these changes. Well, it is your right for now You also used to have more rights, but they are gone now. Maybe this one will be gone one day to. In Germany in 1944 you didnt have the right to not care about the Feurhrer.

You keep comparing the USA to Nazi Germany, so you really think we are like that?

No, not at all. I just wish certain things about the USA couldn't be compared to Nazi Germany.
